Franova (Fran) Starr McGee Burton, 92, resident of Swisher County for over 60 years, died on October 8th, 2015 at the Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia, Texas. She is survived by her son Jeff Burton of Lubbock, TX; daughter and son-in-law Dorinda (Tom) Eargle of Blythewood, SC; daughter-in-law Linda Burton of Clinton, OK; sister Carolyn Gifford of Austin, TX, brother and sister-in-law Ted (Johnnie) McGee of Happy, TX; and sister-in-law Marsha McGee of Gainesville, TX; 7 grandchildren 4 step grandchildren and numerous great and great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Tom, son Richard, daughter-in-law Rose Burton, brother Hap McGee and his wife Neoma , sister Cloy and her husband Norman Jackson, sister Ree and her husband Marvin Denny, her brother John McGee and brother-in-law Guy Gifford. She was born on July 7 1923 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Framon and Joyce Cecil McGee. On October 29, 1947, she married Thomas Other Burton in Clairmont, TX. She was a graduate of Williams High School and began her work career during World War II in support of our military. Her career then moved to the Tulia Herald and on to the US Post Office where she served in Tulia until her retirement. We will remember her for all the ways she touched our lives. Fran was blessed with a full life of family, friends, and hobbies that have enriched all of us. She was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues, state and national tournaments, bringing home many trophies and awards. Her major passion her entire life was working in her yard nourishing the soil with flowers and vegetables. One of her greatest joys was to have someone randomly stop by and ask for a cutting from one of her many plants. She nourished our souls with her leadership as the Matriarch of the family. She was loved dearly, will be missed greatly, and will always be remembered for the way she touched the lives of her family and friends. Family visitation will be Sunday, October 11th, from 3:00-5:00 PM, at Kornerstone Funeral Home, 201 West Broadway, Tulia, TX. Her funeral service will be held at the same facility on Monday, October 12th at 2:00 PM with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia.
