Georgie Lucille Nance Brandes (Plainview)

Georgie Lucille Nance Brandes passed away peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior on October 13, 2015. Georgie lived a full and gracious life serving the Lord, her community, her family, and her many friends. She will be remembered for her faith, her values, and for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. Services to celebrate Georgie’s life will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lockney, Texas. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held Friday evening, October 16, 2015 from 6-8pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors (exit 48 off of I-27) in Plainview, TX. Georgie was born on February 1, 1925 to Morris and Ruth Nance. She was the oldest of their three daughters. Georgie attended Providence School before graduating from Plainview High School in 1942. On April 26, 1943 Georgie married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Luther Ben (Buddy) Brandes. They had 67 loving years together before Buddy’s death in 2010. Georgie was truly exemplary of a virtuous and devoted wife and mother to their two daughters. Georgie was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in the Providence community. She taught Sunday School and was involved in Women of the Church as well as many other church activities. She served on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Social Services of the South Plains for 6 years and always graciously supported Buddy as he served on many community and church related boards as well. She and Buddy were also volunteers for the local Hospice agency in the Plainview area. With a zest for life, Georgie loved to cook and sew, and she delighted in entertaining and playing bridge with her many dear friends. Georgie was a wonderful seamstress, and lovingly made most of her sisters’ and her daughters’ clothing when they were young. She will certainly be remembered by many for her fabulous Angel Food Cakes, her crotched pot holders, and always remembering or thanking someone with her beautifully handwritten notes and cards. She took much pride in filling countless picture albums with photos of family, friends, and all the wonderful trips around the world that she and Buddy were blessed to experience together. Her most glorious pride was her children, grandchildren, and most especially her 4 great grandchildren. Georgie was loving, caring, generous and always attentive to the needs of others. In 2012 she moved to the Dallas area to be near her family. It was there that she was blessed to celebrate her birthday of 90 years surrounded by her family and closest lifelong friends. Those loved ones left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Debra Bartos and husband Jim of Lubbock, and Pam Hall and husband Corky of Garland. Grandchildren include Megan Hays Pilkinton and husband Nathan of Prosper, Hayley Hall Hangartner and husband Jerod of Richardson, and Courter Brandes Hall and wife Meagan of Dallas. Her great grandchildren are Grayson and Georgia Pilkinton and Davis and Hattie Lucille Hangartner. She is also survived by her 2 sisters: Wanda Gene Flippin of Plainview and Barbara Ann Peterson of Boulder, Colorado. Georgie was also loved by an abundance of other nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Memorials may be made to Upbring (the New Lutheran Social Services) or a charity of your choice.
