James W. "Dub" Barnett (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—James W. “Dub” Barnett, 76, died on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. James was born on September 30, 1939 in Fannin County Texas to James Barnett and Christine Tillman. They moved to Tulia in 1953 where Dub attended schools in Tulia. He married Lana Barnett on October 9, 1958 at Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia. He was a truck driver from 1991 until 2011 and was also a painting contractor for 30 years in Canyon. He received many Safe Driving Awards and he was instrumental in gaining reconciliation of the Texas Plains Trail Region through the Texas Historical Commission. Dub was also actively involved with the Tulia Chamber of Commerce. He is preceded in death by his parents: James M. Barnett and Christine Tillman; his brother: Leonard Barnett. He is survived by his wife: Lana Barnett of Tulia, two daughters: Tamala Gurevitch and husband Alan of Amarillo, TX, Jayme Chapa and husband Josh of Brandon, MS; one son: John Jordan Barnett and wife Kassy of Tulia, one brother: Jerry Barnett of Burkeville, TX one sister: Saundra Segrest of Jasper, TX, his sister-in-law: June Wurst and husband Robert of Amarillo, TX; nine grandchildren: Hanna Fairchild, Ethan and Mason McKenzie, Emery and Damian Chapa, Laila, Robert, John and Grace Barnett Memorials may be made to the Texas Plain Trail Region, P.O.
