Jake Q Finney, 82, was born in Runningwater Community, Hale County, Texas, on June 29, 1933, to JQ and Una Mae Finney, and passed away November 1, 2015, in Plainview, Texas. During his life, Jake Q Finney was known by many names. He was called Son, Jakie, Jakie, Jr., Jake, Jr., Jake, Brother, Daddy, and Granddaddy. He attended schools at Runningwater and Plainview, where he graduated from high school. He attended Oregon College of Education, Monmouth, Oregon, on a football scholarship. He also attended West Texas State College, Canyon, Texas, where he met Paula Barbee. They married June 17, 1956, and had three children: Randy, Kimberly, and Bracken. Jake Q Finney was a member of the Runningwater Community Church, First Baptist Church of Edmonson, and First Baptist Church of Plainview. He was a farmer in Hale County until retirement. He was an avid storyteller and enjoyed bird hunting with his dogs, family, and friends. His survivors include: wife Paula of the home; son Bracken and wife Cheryl and daughters Lauren and Kaitlyn, Taylor, Texas; daughter Kimberly and husband Randy Lackey, Edmond, Oklahoma, and sons David and John, Stillwater, Oklahoma; and brother Bob and wife Barbara, Muleshoe, Texas. Jake Q Finney was predeceased by son Randy, Graham, Texas, and sister Narcia and husband Steve Messenger, Amarillo, Texas. The pallbearers will be David Lackey, Mike Messenger, Jay Messenger, Troy Messenger, Alan Finney, Kevin Hatley and Willis McCutcheon. Visitation is 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, Plainview. Funeral service is 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Plainview, followed by burial in Plainview Memorial Park, Dr. Tim Marrow, officiant. Flowers are welcome.
