A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 7 at Kornerstone with burial to follow in Plainview Cemetery. Bob was born on November 13, 1926 to Robert E. Horne, Sr. and Florence Louise Lamb Horne in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School and attended Texas A&M University before his appointment to the United States Naval Academy where he played quarterback on the football team and graduated in 1949. He returned to Plainview where he briefly owned and operated the Plainview Bus Company with his brother Davis E. Horne, and then engaged in farming and developing a pecan orchard over the ensuing decades. Bob was undoubtedly one of the most positive and encouraging souls to grace the Earth. His nieces and nephews, their spouses and families, and all those he encountered benefitted from his enduring examples of humility, concern, assistance, and genuine attention. Never once was he heard to have uttered an unkind word to another, and he put the interests of others before himself in every situation. While the world will miss his endearing chuckle and firm handshakes, the extended family and innumerable friends he leaves behind are better people for having known him. Through his generosity and the modest demeanor that defined him as a perfect gentleman, friend, and “Unk,” his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched over the decades.
