Wesley Harold Barnes (Plainview)

Wesley Harold Barnes, 90 of Plainview passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at First United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Max Browning and Jeff Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Wesley was born May 25, 1925 in Hale Center to the late Stewart and Faye Hamm Barnes. Wesley attended school in Hale Center, graduating in 1942. He attended Watson Business College in Plainview. Wesley joined the Navy on January 1, 1943 where he was stationed in California and on islands in the South Pacific. Wesley received an Honorable Discharge in April 1946 with the rank of First Class Petty Officer. After the war, Wesley worked for several years at Willson-Waldrop Lumber Company in Plainview. After working at the lumber yard, Wesley worked for the Plainview Independent School District, retiring in 1985 after 25 year of service. Wesley was honored by the Plainview Independent School District for 51 years of service as an Election Judge in 2005. He was also involved in farming and cattle ranching where he loved raising Appaloosa horses and Beefmaster cattle. Wesley married Martha Elizabeth Clements on June 25, 1954 in Plainview, Texas. They were married for 61 wonderful years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plainview, a member of the Harmony Sunday School Class and served on various church boards. He was a member of the 57 Supper Club, Optimist Club, and served as Cub Master and Assistance Scout Master for many years. Wesley was inducted into the Scouting Hall of Fame in 1993. Wesley is survived by his wife, Martha, one daughter Evelyn Barnes of Boston, Mass, two sons, Gary and wife Cindy of College Station, TX and Joe and wife Elaine of Plainview; one granddaughter, Sayla Barnes of Austin, TX; three grandsons; Ryan Barnes of Houston, TX.; John Barnes and wife Kristen of Seminole, TX, and Ethan Barnes of Plainview, four nephews, Richard Barnes, John Summers, Jim Summers and Tom Summers. Wesley loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them on the farm, in Ruidoso and on many family vacations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Faye Barnes, brothers C.W. Barnes and George Barnes and two sisters; Martha Lee Barnes and Christine Summers. Family suggests memorials be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, Methodist’s Children’s Home in Waco, or a favorite charity.
