Charlotte Thornton (Plainview)

Charlotte Thornton, 88, of Plainview, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 9, 2009, in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation for family and friends will be from 4-5 P.M., Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the funeral home. Mrs. Thornton was born on August 11, 1920 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She married Ed Thornton on August 25, 1968 in Clovis, New Mexico. Mrs. Thornton graduated high school in Yuba, California and attended Yuba Junior College. She spent most of her adult years in Littlefield and Plainview and served as the Lamb County Clerk and City Secretary before moving to Plainview where she worked as a medical/insurance clerk at Plainview Medical Center for several years. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the YMCA board of directors and loved her water aerobics class at the YMCA. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and enjoyed Senior activities. Charlotte and Ed loved to travel and spend time at their cabin in Pecos, New Mexico. Charlotte is survived by her husband: Ed Thornton of Plainview; one daughter: Judie James and husband Don of Lubbock; two grandsons: Bobby James of Lubbock and Brad James and wife Allison of New Braunfels; three great granddaughters: Emily, Hallie and Olivia; she is also survived by Ed’s children: C.E. Thornton and wife Karen of Sulphur Springs, Travis Thornton and wife Amy of Plainview and Linda Morris and husband Jack of Plainview; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
