Eddie Modena Cumbie, 85, of Stephenville, formerly of Plainview passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stephenville. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Earl Cumbie of Hope, Arkansas officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Thursday afternoon from 4 to 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. Cumbie was born on June 4, 1923, in Hale Center, Texas, to Sam Daniel and Lizzie May Caldwell. She grew up in the Irick community and graduated from Plainview High School in 1940. She married Weldon Cumbie on March 4, 1944, in Lubbock. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainview and member of the Leota Hardgrove Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Artie, B.W., Harless, Norman, J.R. Caldwell; and one sister, Imogene Caldwell. She is survived by husband of 65 years, Weldon Cumbie of Stephenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Tommy Barker of Stephenville; three grandchildren, Brian and Julie Barker of San Angelo, Craig and Karmen Barker of Lubbock, Tametha Barker of Gallup, New Mexico; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Beth Caldwell of Virginia. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
