She graduated from Baylor University and received a Masters from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. She taught over 25 years in Baptist Sunday Schools and served on the staffs at First Baptist Church, San Antonio; First Baptist Church, Arlington; and First Baptist Church, Dallas, where she met the church organist, Earl Miller. They married June 12, 1953. Lucile and Earl moved to Plainview in 1957 where he was on the faculty at Wayland Baptist University for over 36 years. A homemaker, she was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, but sang in the choirs at First Methodist, Hale Center, and St Mark’s Episcopal Church, where Earl was the Organist/Choirmaster. During the summers, Lucile and their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, traveled with Earl while he earned credit hours in music and organ in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico camping in many places along the way. She traveled on several organ study tours to Europe where Earl played organs in France, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Lucile enjoyed reading, particularly about historical women. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the World Series and Olympic ice hockey. She was on the volleyball team in high school, and while visiting relatives’ farms in Iowa, she loved riding horses as often as she could. After moving to Plainview, she and the family attended most Wayland sporting events, particularly the Flying Queens basketball games. She loved listening to Earl play the organ and piano. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl on June 13, 2015; and by her brother John Aldo Shults on September 9, 2015.
