Tulia, Texas— John Wilkerson, 89, died Monday, April 6, 2009 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Charles Davenport and Rev. James Hassell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Wilkerson was born May 9, 1919 in Leonard. He grew up there and graduated from Leonard High School. He spent all his life in the Auto Industry. He served four years in the US Army Air Corps and was an Aircraft Fuel Systems Instructor. He married Jo Overstreet in February 1941.He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and was a Master Mason for over 50 years. In 1961 he bought the Ford House in Tulia and owned and operated John Wilkerson Ford until 1989. He was on the TISD School Board for several years and also the Chamber of Commerce board. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tulia. Survivors include his wife; Jo Wilkerson of Tulia, one daughter; Jan Phillips of Tulia and one son; Hal Wilkerson and wife Sandy of Tulia, two grandchildren; Amy Wilkerson of Longmont, Colorado and Blake Phillips of Amarillo.
