J.D. “Candyman” Rodgers, 91, of Hart went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Plainview. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Hart with Rev. Allie Balko of Medina, Texas officiating. Burial will follow in Hart Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2009, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. J.D. was born March 1, 1918 in Sagerton, Texas to Jim and Bertha Rodgers. He grew up in Haskell County. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He returned home and lived in many different places before settling down at Hart in 1952. He farmed for over 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hart, and a member of the American Legion. He also played Santa Claus for several years. His true love was traveling to many different countries as a missionary spreading the word of God. He married Wrenella Parsons on August 17, 1952. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1984. He married Patsy Holbert on Feb. 23, 1992 in Hart. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Rodgers of Cleburne; two daughters, Rovena Romans of Gallitan, Tennessee, Sharon Key and husband Ronnie of Olton; two sons, John Rodgers and wife Deeanna of Plainview, Christopher Rodgers of Splendora, Texas; one brother, Johnnie Rodgers of Big Spring; two sisters, Dora Bell Davis of Aspermont, Violet Patterson of Big Spring; two step-children, Rob Slough of Cleburne, Sharon Eyre of Fort Worth; a whole herd of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, friends, and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by one son, Roy Don Rodgers; two brothers, and five sisters.
