Vertis C. Barley, 74, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 in Plainview. A Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 4, 2016 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Alvin Petty officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Vertis was born on June 18, 1941 in Plainview, Texas to Arthur and Pearl Barley. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1959. He married the love of his life Enga Rockenfeller Barley on October 16, 1960 in Amarillo, Texas. He worked as a heating and air conditioning man for almost 60 years; owning his own business, Plains Refrigeration Service, for over 30 years. He retired in 2013 and he was very active in Boy Scouts. He was inducted into the Scouters Hall of Fame. Survivors include his wife Enga Barley of Plainview, TX; one daughter Tricia Wheeler and husband Al of Greenville, TX; one son Michael Barley of Lubbock, TX; three grandchildren, Ashleigh James and husband Christopher of Greenville, TX, Alexa LeBeau of Tyler, TX and Madison LeBeau of Greenville, TX; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Radloff and husband Harry of Hereford, TX, Alice Wright and husband Kent of Amarillo, TX; one brother-in-law Bill Rockenfeller and wife Kathy of Amarillo; mother-in-law Elsie Graham of Hereford, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Pearl Barley; two brothers Arnold and Cleo Barley; one sister Thelma Howell. The family suggests memorials to Boy Scouts of America and the American Lung Association.
