Marion Anderson “Whit” Whitfield, 83, of New Braunfels passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 A.M. Monday, May 11, 2009 in the chapel of First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the funeral home. Mr. Whitfield was born March 8, 1926 in Plainview, Texas to Albert Tate and Mary Maud Whitfield. He married Nancy Jean Carter on October 21, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2008. Mr. Whitfield worked as a Chief Engineer for the Western Company where he owned two patents for oil production. He sang in church choirs for over 45 years and was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters: Marianne Carter of New Braunfels and Nancylee Staggs of Ft. Worth; sisters and brothers in law: Luan Haynes and husband Kent of Wimberly, Sally Montgomery and husband Robert of New Port Richey, Florida, Kay Duncan and husband Rannie of Plano and Jerre Knoblock and husband Bob of Azle; two grandchildren: Sara Staggs of Chicago and Katy Staggs of Ft. Worth; one great grandchild: Sophia Staggs of Ft. Worth and many nieces and nephews.
