Roy Shannon (Tulia)

Roy Edward Shannon, 88, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in Tulia. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Roy was born January 26, 1921 to Tom and Docia Shannon in Center Point, Arkansas. He graduated from Turkey High School in 1940. He attended ground pilot training at Amarillo College. Roy was joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was part of “The Original Black Cat Squadron” and served until he was discharged in 1946. After returning home, he farmed until retiring in 1988. Roy was preceded in death by his parents: Tom and Docia Shannon, his brother and sister-in-law: Dewey and Ocil Shannon, an infant sister: Katy Shannon, and a nephew: Jerry Shannon. Survivors include two great-nieces: Sheila Dale and Toni Lincoln, both of Amarillo, a close cousin: Inez Caroline of Tulia, and many other cousins and close friends
