A memorial service is planned for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Christian Manor party room, with Rev. Jason Smith, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Kornerstone. Louise was born in Hillsboro, TX, to E.E. and Mildred Harris Provence on August 17, 1934. She attended school in Hillsboro before moving to Alvarado, TX, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 1955 and began her teaching career in Chicago before returning to Texas. She taught in Fort Worth, Arlington, Waco, and Carlsbad, NM. She accepted an assignment in Karlsrue, Germany, with the Department of Defense. That is where she met her future husband, Major Arthur J. Laine. She returned to the states after two years and married Major Laine on October 23, 1965, in Arlington. They retired in 1984 and bought their first motorhome and became fulltime RV’ers. After five years on the road, Major Laine died with a massive heart attack on February 18, 1989. Louise decided to try traveling by herself and for the next 22 years, she traveled across the United States. She would go one year across the south to Florida soon after Christmas, and as the weather warmed up, she would go north until she got to Boothbay Harbor, ME, where she would stay until around Labor Day, and then would work her way slowly south to Texas arriving around Thanksgiving. The next year, she would go across the south to Palm Springs, CA, and as the weather warmed, she would work her way north to Ocean Shores, WA. She always loved the water and the beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Sam Provence. Among her survivors are her brother, Joe Provence and wife Freda; a sister, Sarah Provence McCorkle, all of Plainview; three aunts, Opal Provence Smith of Hillsboro; Allene Provence Sims, of San Antonio; and Betty Harris Brackett, of The Woodlands; a nephew, Brad McCorkle and wife Peggy, of Arlington.
