Tulia, Texas—Benny “Joe” Hooper, 83, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Karen Young, Rev. Curtis House and Rev. Tommy Ewing officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 at the funeral home. Joe was born on September 26, 1932 in Silverton to Benjamin Franklin and Revellah Maye Turner Hooper. Most of his school years were in Kress and Tulia. He married Martha Vaughan on June 1, 1952 in Happy at the First Methodist Church. After their marriage they farmed in Tulia then living in Walsh, Colorado he worked for a fertilizer company. They moved back to Texas living in Edmonson, Plainview and Tulia. Before he retired he worked for Randy Falkenburg at the farm in Plainview then the ranch at Goodnight helping farm and raise cattle for 23 years. His hobby was raising and showing Appaloosa and Quarter Horses. He helped with the 4-H kids showing horses. His greatest pride and joy are his grandchildren and great grandsons. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law: Bobby Warren and Edna Hooper and his brother-in-law: Cletus Dobbs. He is survived by his wife: Martha Hooper of Tulia, their children: Jerry Joe Langin-Hooper of Walsh, CO, Jill Len Lashmet of Eaton, CO, Jana Kay Lashmet of Tulia and Jim Bob Hooper of Lubbock, one brother: Frank Ray Hooper of Amarillo, one sister: Rita Maye Dobbs of Tulia, 11 grandchildren and five great grandsons.
