American Patriot Ira Lee Hill, 84, of Plainview was called home to his Father’s house on Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Plainview. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church in Plainview with Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Kress Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Hill was born December 15, 1924, in Finney Switch, Texas, to John and Mattie Sneed Hill. Hill served in the infantry during WWII before being severely wounded in 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the European Theatre Medal. He married Margaret Ann Moore on December 15, 1945, in Plainview. He retired from Plainview Independent School District and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Hill also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Society of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hill of Plainview; two daughters, Mae Harkins & husband Dennis of Plainview and Gay Anderson & husband Mike of Plainview; two sons, Lee Hill & wife Marcela of Grapevine and John Hill & wife Kay of Powderly; one brother, Homer Hill of Amarillo; one sister, Cora McGaugh of Ralls; sixteen grandchildren and thirty four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Neal Hill and one sister, Ruby Bond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
