Don Wason (Plainview)

Don R. Wason, 84, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016 at home in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm in the East Mound Cemetery in Matador. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Don was born on September 29, 1931 in Matador to W.B. and Artie Wason. He grew up there and graduated from Matador High School. He married June Spray on May 17, 1949 in Paducah. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He returned to Matador for three years before he attended UCLA School of Dental Technology where he graduated in 1962. They moved to Plainview where he owned and worked as a dental technician at Wason Dental Lab from 1962 until October 2015. If anyone in the South Plains has had dental work within the last 53 years it was likely done by Don. He was a member of the West Texas Dental Lab Owners Association, a member of the Hi-Plains Rock Club for several years and was a very active member of First United Methodist Church in Plainview. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son: Kelly Don Wason, one sister: Dorothy Wason Campbell and one brother: Billy Wason. He is survived by his wife of 67 years June Wason of Plainview, one daughter: Karen Wason of Plainview and three grandchildren: Sarah Schmalzried and husband Cody of Kress, Emily Wason of San Antonio and Zane Varnon of Dallas. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1001 W. 7th St., Plainview, Texas 7907 or to the American Cancer Society, 3513 10th St., Lubbock, Texas 79415.
