Tulia, Texas— Karen Stark, 56, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 1, 2009 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. O.K. Neal, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Kress officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Karen was born April 21, 1953 in Panama City, Florida. She was raised in Kress and attended school there thru her Junior Year and graduated from Shawnee Oklahoma High School in 1971. She attended Wayland Baptist University and Amarillo College. She was a bookkeeper and a barber for many years. She moved to El Paso and worked for Bogaurd’s as a bookkeeper and also at Ft. Bliss. She was named El Paso Woman of the Year for 1988-1989. She was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW. She was Grand MOCA President of Texas in 1990-1991. She moved back to Plainview in 1992. Survivors include her parents: Edwin and Shirley Stark of Claytonville, three sisters; (her twin) Sharon Helton of Claytonville, Kathie Gorman and Husband Kenneth of Pleasant View, Colorado and Cindy Carothers and husband Tommy of Tulia, two brothers: Chuck Helton of Claytonville and Kenny Helton of Amarillo, 7 nieces and nephews; Amy Newsome, Stacy Hall, Billy Helton, Misti Helton, Brandon Helton, Eric Carothers and Tanner Carothers and 6 great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association @ www.diabetes.org or the American Cancer Society @ www.cancer.org. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2009.
