Howard Shackelford (Plainview)

Howard Shackelford, 94, of Plainview, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2009, in Plainview. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 15, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M., Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the funeral home. Mr. Shackelford was born November 11, 1914, in Cotton Center, Texas, to Edwin John and Aussie Shackelford. He married Sylvia J. Cornett on September 23, 1946, in Clovis, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe for two years during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He farmed all of his life in Cotton Center. He loved to play dominoes every day at the grain elevator. He was a member of the Lion’s Club in Cotton Center. He was a very loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Howard is survived by three daughters, Linda Patterson & companion Marshall Gibson of El Reno, Oklahoma, Judy Harper & husband Larry of Walsh, Colorado and Carolyn Shackelford of Lubbock; two sisters, Loretta Stavenhagen of Granbury and Lorene Hart of Weatherford; one brother, Ben Shackelford of Frisco; six grandchildren, Mitzi Moore, Melissa Hegwood, Sarah Goree, Kristi Wyatt, Charity Netherton and Brandon Harper; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia, his parents, ten brothers and sisters, one son-in-law, Allan Mahagan and a grandson Keith Allan Mahagan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2514 82nd St., Lubbock, Texas 79423, or to the Hale Center Senior Citizens Association, 416 W. 2nd St., Hale Center, Texas 79041.
