Jo Ann Clements of Plainview passed away August 12, 2016, at the age of 92. Funeral services for JoAnn will be on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Mike Schafer officiating and Dr. Max Browning assisting. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 14, 2016, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 3605 SW 3rd Street in Plainview. Jo Ann was born July 27, 1924 in Floyd County, Texas. Her parents were the late Harry Pelham and Evelyn Permelia Lane Clements. Jo Ann attended school at Prairie Chapel and Aiken schools before graduating from Plainview High School in 1941. Jo Ann attended Lippert’s Business College and began working for the local draft board until she began her career as Secretary to the Hale County Agriculture Agent with the Extension Service. During her career with the Extension Service Jo Ann was awarded the Friends of 4-H award and the Superior Services award. Jo Ann retired from the Extension Service in 2001 having served in the position for 51 years. Jo Ann was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plainview where she served as Harmony Sunday School class pianist and secretary. She was a member of the Iva Wheeler Circle where she served as president. Jo Ann was a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW), where she served as Spiritual Growth Chairman. Jo Ann was a long time member of the Plainview Business and Professional Women’s Club and served as their president in 1959-60. In 1966, Jo Ann began her involvement with the District, State and National Federations of the Business and Professional Women’s Club where she served as District 9 Director, Secretary, Third Vice President, Second Vice President, First Vice President, President Elect and was the State BPW President from 1972-1973. Jo Ann was the Foundation Chairman of the National Federation of BPW Clubs in 1974-75 and Program Chairman of the National Federation in 1978-79. Jo Ann attended many state and national conventions in the United States and the Congress of the Americans in San Salvador, El Salvador. Jo Ann was named Plainview’s Woman of the Year in 1977 by the Plainview Chamber of Commerce. Jo Ann loved traveling and enjoyed many trips with her family and friends including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Cape Cod, New York, Washington DC, California, Boston, Nova Scotia, London, Panama Canal, Costa Rico, Nicaragua, Caribbean, and Bahamas. She enjoyed being part of a musical group, the “Red Hots,” and loved playing cards with the “Card Girls”. Survivors include one sister, Martha Clements Barnes of Plainview; two nephews, Gary Barnes and his wife Cindy of College Station; Joe Barnes and his wife Elaine of Plainview; one niece, Evelyn Barnes of Boston Massachusetts; three great nephews, Ryan Barnes of Houston; John Barnes and his wife Kristen of Seminole; and Ethan Barnes of Plainview; one great niece, Sayla Barnes of Austin. Cousins include Kay Clements Pritchard of Plainview; Jacqueline Clements Heath of Martinez, California, and other members of the Clements Family.
