Spencer “Mac” McCartie, 85, of Plainview, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009, in Plainview. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the funeral home. Mr. McCartie was born October 8, 1923, in Plainview, Texas, to T.C. and Pluma McCartie. He married Maxine Lindley on December 25, 1946, in Littlefield, Texas. Mac grew up in Seth Ward and attended school here. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1942. He also attended Texas Tech University. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. William H. Potter that sank in Okinawa during WWII. After serving his country, he returned home and was a printer for the Plainview Daily Herald for more than 40 years until he retired in 1989. He was a member and Deacon of Seth Ward Baptist Church. Mr. McCartie is survived by his wife, Maxine McCartie of Plainview; two sons, Ron & Patty McCartie of Plainview and Tom & Becky McCartie of Plainview; two brothers, Clint McCartie of Scottsdale, Arizona and Orville McCartie of Escondido, California; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mac was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Daniel McCartie, one brother, Glenn McCartie and one sister, Evelyn Hartley.
