David D. Norfleet (Plainview)

David DeWitt Norfleet of Olton, Texas ended his eleven year battle with cancer on September 7, 2016. David was 64. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday September 10, 2016 in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. A visitation will be held Friday September 9, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. He earned his last years with us through his positive attitude, sharp wit, toughness, and his refusal to quit. In the end though, he was not defined by his illness. He was defined by his relationships and memories with others, which undoubtedly left many lasting impressions. Those who knew David will find comfort in knowing that he passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. David is remembered by most in surrounding counties and abroad as a friend, a memorable storyteller, and a hoot to be around. What many did not know was that he was an avid reader, enjoyed music, art and nature, and was well read in many periods of history. David was born in Plainview on August 16th, 1952 to John and Rosemary Norfleet. He grew up on the family cattle ranch in Hale County and attended Olton High School. There he played football, ran track, was a member of the acting club, created many memories and lasting stories. After high school, David went on to farming and ranching for the majority of his life before moving on to driving a long haul rig. During this time he was able to fulfill his lifelong ambition of travelling the country. While he was staying in Spokane, Washington he met his love Kathy Anderson, and decided that Spokane and Kathy were good enough to stay. They enjoyed many years fishing, travelling locally, and enjoying nature from their house near Colville National Forest until Kathy’s death in 2013. David is survived by his parents, John ad Rosemary Norfleet, his children, Amber and Rick Raiford of Greensboro, NC, Abby Norfleet of Charlotte, NC, his son Wayne Norfleet of Riviera, TX, his seven grandchildren, Weston, Caleb, Camryn, Avery, Evan, Landry and Levi, his three sisters Kathie Cleveland of San Marcos, Cynthia Oles of Plainview, TX and Nancy Britton of Yamhill, Oregon and many wonderful nieces and nephews that he loved and adored. He was tough. The family suggests memorials be sent to Claire’s Army: P.O. Box 78571 Charlotte, NC 28271 or online at www.clairesarmy.com.
