Canyon, Texas –Jerome “Jerry” Dirks, 92, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia, Texas. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia, Texas. A visitation will held at 5:30 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia, Texas. Jerry was born on December 1, 1923 in Nazareth, Texas to William and Katherine Dirks. He grew up in Nazareth until he joined the Merchant Marines on January 1945. Jerry got married to Eleanor Love in Portales, New Mexico on February 11, 1950. He was a foreman in the Boiler Room at Texaco Refinery in Amarillo and worked for 34 years. In his part time he ran beef master cattle and grew corn. Jerry loved to drink coffee with his friends at the Ranch House and was known as “Gabby”, and he especially loved and adored his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son: Larry Douglas Dirks, two brothers: Raymond Dirks and Lawrence Dirks, one sister: Sylvia Hoelting. He is survived by his wife: Eleanor Love of Canyon, one daughter: Jamie Irlbeck of Canyon and two grandchildren: Carleigh Elizabeth Irlbeck and Carson Douglas Irlbeck.
