Silverton, Texas—Donnie Martin, 84, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 in the VA Medical Center in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Central Church of Christ in Tulia with Mr. Mike Crowley and Mr. Gary Weaks officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm Monday in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Flomot, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Donnie Derrel Martin was born on April 27, 1932 in Flomot to I.E. Vander Martin and Eva Hunt Martin. He grew up and attended schools there and graduated from Flomot High School in 1949. He farmed for two years before joining the US Army on January 17, 1951. He was a paratrooper and served during the Korean War with the 89th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion, Battery “B”. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1954. He returned to Flomot and farmed. He married Carol Shannon on November 15, 1954. They moved to Silverton in 1968 where they raised their family. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Farris Martin and Jerrel Martin and three sisters: Lillie Mae Johnson, Bula Baird and an infant: Melba Florence Martin. He is survived by his wife: Carol Martin of Tulia, his son and daughter-in-law: Derrel and Karen Martin of Tulia, his daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Greg Hill of Houston, five grandchildren: Nikki and Cody Rogers of Zephyr, TX, Amy and Tim McAtee of Tulia, Dianna and Chad Morgan of Tulia, Cortney and Josh Foraker of Amarillo and Taylor Hill of Lafayette, Louisiana and nine great grandchildren.
