Tulia, Texas--Shirley Whitehead, 84, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport and Rev. Jason Stone, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral Home. Shirley was born on May 23, 1932 in Silverton, Texas to Shelby and Minnie Haynes. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1949. She married Wilton Whitehead on July 23, 1949 in Silverton. They moved to Tulia in 1954, she was a homemaker and also served Swisher County as Tax Assessor for 36 years. She also helped Wilton in his business with Diamond W. Supplies Inc. Shirley was a wonderful cook and loved taking care of her family. She played the piano and loved to travel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for several years. She is preceded in death by her parents: Shelby and Minnie Haynes. She is survived by her husband: Wilton Whitehead of Tulia, two daughters: Kathy Cole and husband Happy of Tulia and Sharon Hughes and husband Kenny of Plainview, one sister: Lallie Patton of Silverton, two grandchildren: Jason Hughes and wife Holly of Plainview and Carrie Hughes of Amarillo and one great granddaughter: Kenley Grace Hughes.
