Augusta Owens Smith (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Augusta Owens Smith, 98, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 in Tulia. Augusta was born to Solon and Juanita Owens on August 1, 1918 in Turkey, Texas. She graduated from Turkey High School in 1936. She later went to Business College at Fort Worth and got a job there. Her mother became ill and Augusta came back to Turkey to care for her. She started working at West Texas Utility at Quitaque. She met Ed Smith and they both moved to Florida and they became Floridians and stayed there most of their lives. Ed preceded her in death in 2001. In 2009 she came to Tulia and lived here until her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tulia. She is preceded in death by her parents: Solon and Juanita Owens and her husband: Edward Smith. She is survived by her brother: Jimmie Eugene Owens and wife Betty of Tulia, one nephew: Jed Owens and wife Paula of Tulia, two great nieces: Aubree McCray and Lexee Owens and one great great niece: Marlee McCray.
