She was affectionately known as Grandma by her 14 grandchildren, and her 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Orba Miller, by her parents, and 2 sisters. She was also preceded in death by a son Kris Myron Miller and a grandson Cade Lane Miller. Maudine was born on July 16, 1923, in Hendrix, (Bryan County) Oklahoma. She married Orba Miller on March 8, 1953 in Denison, Texas. Maudine grew up on a rural farm and graduated from Achille High School in 1941. Being the oldest of the three girls in her family, she worked from an early age helping her father with various farm chores. This became a necessity after she graduated from high school because of World War II rations and hardships where no labor was available for the truck patches that helped the family survive. Five years after graduating high school, she was able to attend college in Denison, Texas and received a degree, which allowed her to teach school for two years. She then married and moved to Floyd County, Texas where she began her family. Maudine Miller was baptized into Christ on May 21, 1939 at age 15. She remained faithful to her Lord until her passing. Her love for the Lord and for her family was the focus that carried her through life. She helped raise her four boys with hard work in the garden and home, as she assisted her husband who farmed in Floyd County. As a supportive spouse and homemaker, she helped to serve the church as an elder’s wife from 1973 until Orba’s passing in 1986. Later as a widow, she traveled to India 3 times on missionary trips. In January of 1996 she began a 13-year project to receive donated items, which she sold from her garage. The proceeds were sent to India to sponsor 3 orphan children. After the 3 specific kids reached adulthood, these donations went to help other destitute children. Total proceeds through the years totaled over 42 thousand dollars. She was truly a woman of faith, demonstrated through action from start to finish. We would like to give special recognition to the loving staff of Westridge Manor who assisted her to endure with a smile through the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by Church of Christ India, 501 Kirchwood St, Plainview, TX, 79072 or the Evangelists Fund at Northwest Church of Christ, 2000 N I-27, Plainview, TX, 79072.
