Tulia, Texas—Nora Foster, 98, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport, officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6-7pm Monday, July 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Nora Ethel (Ward) Foster was born December 14, 1910 in Thackersville, Oklahoma to Jacob Wilson Ward and Nancy Susan (Hasty) Ward. After living her early life in various parts of Texas and California she married Eldbridge Noble “Toad” Foster on August 13, 1932 in Clovis, NM. Nora lived all of her married life in Swisher County, with the bulk of the time spent on the home place 14 miles east of Kress. The early years were spent trying to survive the hardships of the depression and dustbowl days of the early 1930’s. She was a farmwife and homemaker who participated in helping manage and operate the farm. She picked cotton, drove tractors and trucks, milked cows and participated in general farming activities necessary to make the farm productive and profitable, her life devoted to her husband, three sons, a host of family and friends and her faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tulia and was also active socially, being a member of the Kress Study club and three bridge clubs at one time. Nora and her husband both had interests in railroad history as it developed on the High Plains. Nora is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, her husband and a grandson, J. Brett Foster. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Boyd and Dolores Foster of Dallas, Harvey and Marilyn Foster of Tulia, Dennis and Linda Foster of Claytonville, a brother-in-law: Elvin Foster of Plainview, a sister-in-law: Nadine Foster of Plainview, four grandchildren: Michael Foster and his wife Sara of Napa, California, Hunt Foster and his wife Wendy of Austin, Holly Thompson of Tulia and Brad Bradley and his wife Cathy of Canyon and eight great grandchildren: Kaden Foster, Zachary Foster and Norah Foster , all of Napa, California, Ella Foster of Austin, Steleigh Thompson and Harleigh Thompson, both of Tulia, Jennifer Van Beek and her husband Jake of Hartley, Justin Bradley of Tulia.
