Carroll Welch (Tulia)

Carroll Welch, 71, of Kress passed away on Monday, April 24, 2006 in Plainview. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Kress with Rev. Jay Simpson, Area Community Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton, Texas under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Welch was born June 3, 1934 in Silverton, Texas. He grew up in Silverton and attended schools there. He worked on a Ranch before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a platoon leader and was stationed in Ft. Lewis in Tacoma Washington. After his service to his country, Mr. Welch returned to Silverton. They moved to Swisher County in 1961 where he continued to Farm and Ranch. He was an assistant manager of Tulia Feed Lot for 12 years. He attended First Baptist Church in Kress. He was a Charter member of the National Cutting Horse Association and life member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He married Judy Burson on Sept. 17, 1956 in Ft. Sumner, N.M. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hunt of Coeur d Alene, Idaho, Kathy Welch of Kress, Texas; one brother, Ronald Lee Welch of Tulia, Texas; two sisters, Wilma McElmurry of Taft, California, Othel Long of Silverton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Juanita Howard of Silverton, Texas; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merida and Lillie Welch, and two brothers, Lynn Welch and Clauda Welch. The family suggests memorials to Area Community Hospice of Plainview, Silverton Cemetery Association, or Ceta Canyon Camp.
