Bettye Chowning (Plainview)

Bettye Chowning, 78, of Floydada, passed away at 6:42 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Floydada Rehabilitation & Care Center. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Floydada Rehabilitation & Care Center with Bill Swinney, Music Minister of First Baptist Church of Floydada, officiating. A private grave side service will be held in Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Chowning was born to William and Mary Alice Eakin on June 24, 1927 in Floydada. She had graduated from Floydada High School in 1944 and attended West Texas College. She married Alvis LeRoy Chowning on February 3, 1945 in Floydada. Bettye worked for West Texas Utilities as a home economist for several years. She had worked for Piggly Wiggly in Floydada and after she retired, she started a catering business. Survivors include a daughter Delores Fincher of Canyon; one son Billy Douglas Chowning of Rose, Oklahoma; her mother Mary Alice Eakin of Floydada; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Floydada Rehabilitation & Care Center, 925 W. Crockett, Floydada, TX 79235.
