Tulia, Texas—Vicente Rodriguez Chapa, 76, of Tulia passed away on August 5, 2009 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Gilbert Del Toro officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A vigil service will be held Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Vicente was born on April 5, 1933 in George West to Cesario and Cruz Chapa. He grew up there and attended schools. He married Maria Medina on May 27, 1952 in Alice, Texas. They moved to Tulia in the mid 1950’s. He was a truck driver and worked for many companies including Burma Brothers, Rick Skinner, and Ramirez Tortilla Factory. He was also a Welder and worked at the Tulia Trading Post and D.A. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Chapa; and five brothers, Gilbert, Cruz, George, Steven, Victor Chapa; and his parents. Survivors include five daughters, Neomi Maciel of Tulia, Raquel Garcia of Tulia, Rebecca Haden of Slidell, Louisiana, Nora Cruz of Houston, Elia Rodriguez of Tulia; one son, Noe Chapa of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Cesario Chapa, Jr. of Amarillo, Graviel Chapa of Lubbock; 25 grandchildren including four he helped raise, Raul Gomez of Canyon, Rene Garcia of Tulia, Beatrice Hiett of Tulia, Joshua Chapa of Pensacola, Florida; 48 Great Grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Kidney Foundation.
