Tulia, Texas—Freida Rousseau Altman, 60, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Tulia after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Gray, pastor of Tulia Christian Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Freida was born October 25, 1948 in Tulia to Bud and Elsie Rousseau. She grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High. Freida was an expert decorator and artist whose touch always made a house feel like a home. She loved to cook and entertain friends. Frieda knew no stranger and had a knack for making anyone she met feel like they were the most important person in the world. Her laugh could brighten a room in the darkest hour. Frieda was an avid sports fan as well as a participant, she excelled in all sports, but basketball was her love. Freida was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame in December of 1996. She was also inducted into the Texas Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in May of 2007, but her greatest accomplishments in life were her children and grandchildren. She married Daniel Irvin Altman, Jr. on June 24, 1967 in Tulia. She is preceded in death by her daughter: Jamie Altman, her father: Bud Rousseau, her maternal grandparents: Elmer and Ola Knight and her paternal grandparents: Charlie and Vera Rousseau. Survivors include her husband: Danny Altman of Tulia, two daughters and sons-in-law: Nikki and John Choate of Hobbs, NM and Tami and Justin Byrd of Tulia, her mother: Elsie Rousseau of Tulia, one brother and sister-in-law: Paul and Dera Rousseau of Tulia, three sisters and brothers-in-law: Debra and Mikeal Barnes of Tulia, Mary and Matt Robinson of Amarillo, and Susan and Scott Meacham of Edmond, OK, and six grandchildren: Lincoln, Sayler and Sawyer Choate, Meghan, Jerzi and Rali Byrd, and 12 nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to the Area Community Hospice of Plainview, 3109 Olton Rd, Plainview, Texas 79072.
