Betty Jean Hurt (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Betty Jean Hurt, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 10, 2017 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Lamar McBride officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Betty Jean was born in Madill, Oklahoma on October 24, 1932 to Joy and Nell Johnson. She grew up in Madill and attended schools there. She worked at the school cafeteria in Flomot, Texas for a few years when she met Eugene Hurt. They married on January 4, 1956 in Clovis, NM. They lived in Quitaque until 1958 when they moved to Tulia. She was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother: Larry Wayne Johnson and one sister: Lorene Sanders. She is survived by two sons: Rick Hurt and wife Cindy of Tulia, and Billy Hurt and fiancé Ida Luera of Tulia, two sisters: Joy Ann Hurt and Gwen Mays, seven grandchildren: Heather Cooper, Lizzie Dutton, Taylor Hurt, Deborah Spencer, Amy Hurt, Billy Hurt, Jr. and Caleb Hurt.
