Darrell Nelson (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Darrell Nelson, 77, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 17, 2017 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Stone and Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Darrell was born March 15, 1939 to Leonard and Cecil Jane Nelson in Tulia. He grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School. He married Kathy Roberts on October 14, 1983 in Tulia. He graduated from Medical Technologist School in St. Louis. He was a Medical Technologist for Swisher Memorial Hospital for 43 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Medical Technologists and the American Board of Bioanalysts. He served eight years in the US Army National Guard where he was a Master Sergeant over 4 squads in the 36th Inventory Division, 142nd Battalion of the Texas National Guard. He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin sons: David and Paul Nelson, his brothers: Don and Jimmie Wayne Nelson and a niece: Tami Daniel. He is survived by Kathy Nelson and Carmen Nelson, one sister: Jane Nelson of Plainview, his children: Russell Nelson and Cindy Taylor, two nephews: Clay Nelson and wife Kim of Odessa and Bryan Jones and wife Jamie of Clarendon, a niece: Gayle Creed and husband Kevin of Fort Worth, several great nieces and nephews including Derrick Daniel and wife Kristal of Plainview and their daughter Tyra and a sister-in-law: Toza Nelson Jones of Lubbock.
