Jodene Taylor (Plainview)

Jodene Taylor, 85, of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, in Plainview. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 22, 2009, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary in Plainview, with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Friday, August 21, 2009, at the funeral home. Mrs. Taylor was born on October 26, 1923 in Hale County to W.C. and Mellie Willis. She grew up and attended schools in Plainview. She married Andy Taylor on December 24, 1938. She was a homemaker and was very active in her church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday School for many years. Later she was a member of the Leota Hargrove Sunday school class and served as the treasurer. She enjoyed many activities including bowling, water skiing, and playing golf. She was a member of the Plainview Women’s Golf Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Taylor on July 20, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Berwin Willis, Gaston Willis; one sister, Juanda Crowel; and a grandchild, Chris Alvis. Mrs. Taylor is survived by her three children, Beverly Alvis and husband James of Plainview, Rebecca Cooper and husband Mac of Lubbock, Andy Taylor, Jr. and wife Nancy of Abilene; sister, Mary Ann Collier of Amarillo; brother, Howard Willis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight grandchildren, Steve Gardner, Sammy Gardner, Jeff Alvis, Chad Taylor, Marc Taylor, Miles Gardner, Robyn Walker-McLucas, Tina Lock; thirteen great-grandchildren, Triston Alvis, Kali Gardner, Trace Alvis, Connor Alvis, Chase Walker, Kenzi McLucas, Britley Gardner, Grayson Gardner, Branson Gardner, Chase Taylor, Emily Taylor, Evan Taylor, Ella Taylor; and one great great-grandchild, Ethan Alvis. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 205 W. 8th, Plainview, Texas 79072.
