Lavona Charlene Pitchford (Plainview)

Lavona "BooBoo" Carthel Pitchford, 73, of Denton passed away on February 17, 2017 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Westside Church of Christ in Lockney, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 24, 2017 at Crystal Hill Cemetery in Wickes, Arkansas. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at Kornerstone from 6 to 8 P.M. Lavona was born on October 24, 1943 in Lockney, Texas to Cecil and Charlotte Carthel. She grew up in Lockney and graduated from Lockney High School in 1962. She attended Nursing School and graduated in 1971. She later attended Wayland Baptist University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education. She worked as a Nurse and a Nursing Home Administrator for many years. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Lockney. Lavona married Billy Joe Pitchford on April 18, 1975 in Lockney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Charlotte Carthel as well as her husband, Billy, on July 22, 2012. Survivors include four daughters, Becky Myers and husband Mike of Lockney, Margaret Adams and husband Bucky of Petersburg, Teresa Pitchford of Denton, Brandy Scott and husband David of Krum; and 6 grandchildren, Taylor Hernandez and husband Jace of Petersburg, Hope Pitchford of Denton, Skyler Dunn of Lockney, Caitlyn, Alexa, and Becca Scott of Krum; and two great grandchildren, Ryder Pitchford-Thompson of Denton, and Madalynn Hernandez of Petersburg; a brother Charlie Carthel and wife Barbara of Lockney, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be given to the Ronald McDonald House, 3413 10th St, Lubbock, TX 79415.
