Tulia, Texas—Virginia Devin, 97, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Karan Young, pastor, and Rev. Ernie McGaughey, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Virginia was born on December 15, 1919 in Bonham, Texas to Elmer and Martha Clayton. She graduated from Commerce High School and East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce. She taught school at Robert Lee, Texas. During World War II she was employed by the Army Engineers while they were building Majors Army Airfield in Greenville, Texas. Later she was transferred to the Signal Corp. and worked there until the field was closed. It was while working at Majors Field that she met a young Army Air Force Lieutenant from faraway West Texas. She married Roy Edward Devin on June 29, 1946 and moved to Tulia, Texas later that year. After moving to Tulia she joined the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school classes in the lower grades and was active in the United Methodist Women for many years. She was also a member of the Tulia Senior Citizens. She was employed as bookkeeper for Penta Farm Supply from 1957 until it closed in 1983. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister: Betty Bieretz. She is survived by her son: Clayton Devin of Dallas, her granddaughter: Whitney Devin of Austin and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say “Thank You” to her caregivers: Cris Evans, Rose Hernandez and Myra Reyes for their love and care of Virginia. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist church, 119 N. Briscoe, Tulia, Texas 79088 or a charity of your choice.
