Betty Owens (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-Betty Cooper Owens, 82, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 in Tulia. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Karan Young and Rev. Jesse Hodge officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Betty was born on January 26, 1935 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Guy and Anna Rose Cooper. She grew up in Gruver and graduated from high school there. She graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in Education. She married Jim Owens on February 2, 1957. She taught school in Dumas, Plainview and Tulia. She retired in 1962 to raise their son, Jed. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Fairie Hintergardt. She is survived by her husband: Jim Owens of Tulia, her son and daughter-in-law: Jed and Paula Owens of Tulia, her sister: Fern Bell, two granddaughters: Aubree McCray and husband Colin of Lubbock and Lexee Owens of Lubbock and one great granddaughter: Marlee McCray of Lubbock. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to her caregivers: Marry Ann Lawson, Jessyka Alexander, Toni Holten and Mary Jennings.
