Mae Brown (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Laura Mae (McKone) Brown, 88, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on May 22, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mae was born August 22, 1928 in Tulia, the fourth child of George W. and Mary E. (Dietrich) McKone. During her childhood, she and her farming family, survived the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl storms of the Texas Panhandle. She graduated from Tulia High School class of 1945, as Salutatorian. She and Walt Brown were united in marriage on September 24, 1949. She was employed by Dr. W.B. Childress from Feb. 1954 to Dec. 1994, serving as receptionist, bookkeeper and insurance clerk. Mae was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tulia since 1945. She had served her church as an Ordained Elder, Clerk of Session, Trustee, Assistant Treasurer and on most all the committees of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, her parents; one brother: Wesley McKone and one sister: Nettie Johnson. She is survived by two brothers: Charles (Chuck) and Jessie McKone and Alfred (Buck) and Betty McKone, all of Tulia and a host nieces and nephews.
