Judy Kay Bechtold, 70, of Plainview passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 10, 2017 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Jeromy Bechtold and Zach Bechtold officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. A visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 6 to 8 P.M. Judy Bechtold was born on August 16, 1946 in Lubbock, Texas to Roger and Jeffie Mae (Powell) Smith. She graduated from Lubbock Christian University, Texas Tech University as an English major and University of North Texas with her master’s degree. She was a librarian at Hart ISD, Cotton Center ISD, Kress ISD and a Library Director at Unger Memorial Library and various other libraries. She was a charter member of Soroptomist Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Plainview Band Boosters for many years. She married Charles Lee Bechtold on December 26, 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 2016; her parents, Roger and Jeffie Mae Smith; brother-in-law, Don Haberer and a sister-in-law, Kathy Smith. She is survived by a son, Michael Bechtold of Plainview; a brother, Gary Smith of Cedar Crest, NM; a sister, Sue Haberer of Prosper, TX; a brother-in-law, Fred Bechtold and his wife, Susan of Plainview; four nephews, Jeromy Bechtold, wife Angelia and children Corbin Dan and Paige Ann, Keith Bechtold, wife Stacy and children Ashlen, Justin Keith, Peyton and Logan Frederick, Zach Bechtold, wife Mikel and children Zoe Noel, Noah Paxton, Ryann Elizabeth, Chris Haberer and son Gage; two nieces, Staci Adams, husband David and daughter Alexis; Kristy Bechtold of Amarillo; aunt, Marjorie McCandles; and many cousins. Memorials may be made to the Plainview Band Boosters or Unger Memorial Library or the Roger Smith Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund thru Texas Tech University.
