Virgal Pierson, 79, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, in Lockney. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 26, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, with Mr. John Blythe officiating, assisted by David Buchanan. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M., Friday, September 25, 2009, at the funeral home. Mr. Pierson was born March 21, 1930 in Petersburg, Texas to W.I. and Ella Pierson. He grew up in Petersburg and attended schools in Lakeview and Petersburg. He married Bobbie Gean Young in Littlefield on December 21, 1947. He was a farmer for 29 years. He worked for Barwise Elevator for 15 years and then worked for the National Stations of Texas and the Boll Weevil Eradication Program. He was a member of Southside Assembly of God Church in Plainview for 54 years and a deacon for 35 years. He attended First United Methodist Church in Petersburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue, his parents, W.I. & Ella Pierson, four brothers, Elmer, Joe, D.W., & Bill Pierson, three sisters, Cortez Breeding, Ethel & Opal Pierson, one granddaughter, Kelly Pierson, and a great grandson, Mason Emert. Virgal is survived by his wife, Bobbie Pierson of Petersburg, three sons, Gerald Pierson & wife Wanell of Midland, Bob Pierson & wife Chris of Petersburg, & Don Pierson & wife Nancy of Midland, one brother, Walter Pierson & wife Lenora of Dumas, two sisters, Stella Helms of Abernathy and Hulda Pierson of Plainview, six granddaughters and twenty four great grandchildren.
