Myrla Sue Gardner (Tulia)

Vigo Park, Texas- Myrla Sue Gardner of Vigo Park, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM in the Vigo Park Community Church with Mr. Kenneth Gardner and Mrs. Lee Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Vigo Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Myrla Sue was born February 19, 1947 to Hazel Marie and Orvall West Gardner in Tulia. After graduating from Tulia High School she attended Texas Tech University and St. Paul Hospital School of Medical Technology in Dallas. In 1969, she received her degree in medical technology. She worked a year at St. Paul’s then worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo where she became lab supervisor and helped organize a med tech school. In 1985 she moved to Dallas and worked for Shared Medical Systems, which later became Seimens. She installed hospital computer systems all over the United States until she was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor in October 2003. She was a much loved “second” mother to many nieces and nephews. Over the years, she has been active in the Polk Street Methodist Church, First Methodist in Richardson and the Vigo Park Community Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl Lyndon Gardner; a sister-in-law, Jo Beth Gardner; and a nephew, Charles Robert Gardner. She is survived by her sister; Becky Bivens and husband Ronald; her brothers, Gary and Dan Gardner, all of Vigo Park and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A special thanks to the caregivers and medical professionals who showed so much compassion and kindness during her illness the last 14 years.
