Lee Shugart (Plainview)

Lee Shugart, 92, of Plainview, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at his home in Plainview. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Gilbert of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Lee was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. Burial will be at Parklawn Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Lee was born on March 2, 1925, in Quanah, Texas, one of eight children to J.E. and Etta Shugart. He moved north of Plainview to the Liberty community in 1933 to work on the family farm. He served three years in the Army during World War II. In basic training, Lee scored expert with the M1 rifle, so he became an infantryman. After serving 4 1/2 months, the Army sent him to cook and baker’s school in Camp Callan, California, for six weeks training. Lee was then sent to Camp Howze in Texas where he was first cook with a crew of nine serving the officers’ mess of 200 with all pastries and special dishes. After his discharge he met and then married Ruth Morgan on Oct. 26, 1946. He worked for Sears, W.T. Cain Motor Co., Heaths, Plainview Plate Glass, PHS athletics and he owned and operated a car sales until his retirement in 1987. He was preceded in death by Ruth Shugart, his parents, brothers Roy, Melvin and Elvin, sisters Geneva Mcquire, Bobbie Thornton and Netha Reeves. He is survived by one sister Doris Williams of Shallowater; a daughter Bobbye Greenhaw (Jerald) of Plainview, Texas; two sons, Billy Shugart (Sandra) of Plainview, Texas, and Robert Shugart (Tammy) of Palestine, Texas; seven grandkids, Donnie Looney, Rhonda Hareford, Sandy Knox, Kim Burrows, Tammy Shugart, Robb Shugart and Janet Goyne; 12 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandkids.
