Tulia, Texas—Selma Nauert Milligan, 91, of Tulia passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Amarillo. Funeral services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church in Tulia with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Visitation will be held Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Selma was born on February 13, 1918 in small community of Dessau near Austin, Texas. The daughter of William E. Nauert and Selma Wieland Nauert, she attended schools in Pflugerville, Texas, and graduated from High School there in 1936. While working at Penney’s on Congress Avenue in Austin, she met Gilbert W. Milligan, and they were married on July 2, 1942. After working in several Penney’s stores in Texas, they made their home in Tulia in 1953 where Gilbert and Selma were partners and managers of J-Gees Department Store until their retirement in 1982. Selma was known as Mimi to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always put her family ahead of herself, and was ready to help them in any capacity that she could. Selma was a very social person. She loved to visit with people and was active in the First United Methodist Church of Tulia. She was well known for her beautiful smile and ready hugs for everyone she met. Through the years, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and most of all, dancing with Gilbert. Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Selma Nauert; two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Combest and husband Richard of Tulia; one son, Terry Milligan of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Margaret Dickens of Austin; five grandchildren, Sean Milligan, Julie Hughes, Callie Walterscheid, Chance Combest, Caroline Combest; and six great grandchildren; and special friend Bob Goodwin.
