Doris Crossland(Plainview)

Doris Foreman Crossland, 90, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Plainview, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview with Pastor Mike Schafer officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 6-8 at the funeral home. Doris Foreman Crossland was born on January 3, 1927 to Lura Nell and F.M. Foreman in Amarillo, TX. Her early years were spent on a farm near Sunray, TX. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1943. After high school she attended Amarillo College where she played intramural sports, was a reporter for the Palo Duro Yearbook and a member of Alpha Iota. She later attended Wayland Baptist College where she majored in pre-med. Doris met James Crossland when he was finishing his service in the Army Air Corps after WWII and she was working for the Hale County Agent. They married October 19, 1947. By September 1952, three daughters had been added to the family. For many years Doris worked for the Hamby Company and McCourt Construction Company in Plainview. She served 25 years as a volunteer for the American Heart Association and was a co-teacher for the Harmony Class at First Methodist Church. She also taught the Bethel Bible series for the class and many other local groups. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jane Crossland Luck and her grandson, Brandon Barham, as well as her brother Clare Foreman and sister Katy Foreman Hullum. She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, James Crossland of Plainview; her daughters Linda Barham and husband Steve of Lubbock and Cathy Woods and husband Joe of Houston; son-in-law Jim Luck of Houston; her grandchildren, Jennifer Barham Carroll and husband Eric, Seth Woods, Erin Woods, Jamie Luck, Jared Luck and wife Kelly, and Josh Luck; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Brynn and London Carroll, Emma and Bailey Luck; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Santa Fe Place for their loving care of Doris in her last few years and Area Community Hospice. Their kindness was a blessing to the whole family. Thank you to the many Plainview friends who visited and helped in countless ways. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the First United Methodist Church 1001 W. 7th Plainview, TX 79072 or a charity of your choice.
