Tulia, Texas-Mercedes “Meche” Zapata, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Elder Larry Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mercedes was born on March 19, 1933 in Piedra Negras, Mexico to Edubijes and Blasa Rosales. She came to Tulia in the 1950’s. She worked at the Royal Park in Tulia for 19 years. Mercedes was a very happy person who enjoyed life and had an appreciation for life. She was a member at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness South West Spanish congregation in Amarillo. She was a faithful preacher and her goal was to spread the good news to everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Ynez Zapata, one daughter: Gloria Zapata, one son: Jessie Rosendo Zapata, three brothers: Jose Rosales, Andres Rosales and Rosendo Rosales. She is survived by her three daughters: Alicia Menchaca, Connie Zapata and Silvia Mata, five sons: Raul Zapata, David Zapata, Joe Zapata, Daniel Zapata and Juan Hernandez, one brother: Ruben Rosales, numerous grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and numerous great -great grandchildren.
