Dorothy Jean Mitchell, 81, of Plainview, passed away on September 18, 2017. She was born to Erbin and Imogene Drake in Red River County Texas on November 25, 1935. She graduated from high school in Avery, Texas in 1954. She married Jimmie Lewis Mitchell that same year and moved to Plainview. She worked for Plainview Independent School District for 35 years as a teacher’s aide, with most of those years teaching kindergarten students. She retired from PISD in 2002 and then spent the next 6 years teaching private Pre-K and working at the YMCA afterschool program. She was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview. She is preceded in death by her father, Erbin Drake, her husband, Jimmie Mitchell, a granddaughter, Jessica Flores and a grandson, Jason Maloney. Survivors include her mother, Imogene Drake of Annona, Texas, a daughter, Judy Maloney and husband, Jerry, of Lubbock; a son, Jerry Mitchell and wife, Rachel, of Lubbock; grandsons Jimmie and Thomas Mitchell, of Lubbock, grandson Jarod Maloney and wife, Taylor, of Dallas, and greatgrandchildren, Celeste and Tristan Flores, of Amarillo. A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.
