Tulia, Texas—Montie Dean Howell, 76, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in Plainview. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt, Texas with Mr. Mike Prather officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Montie was born on February 5, 1941 in Levelland, Texas to Charles and Alice Hale. She graduated from Hereford High School and attended West Texas State University. She married Herb Howell on March 15, 1960 in Ida, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and later during life she went to Eastern New Mexico University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. Montie loved photography, animals, reading and looking into genealogy in tracing her family’s history. Herb preceded her in death on November 3, 2012. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Bovina and Tulia. Montie loved her special animal friends: her birds, Sally and Richard and her dog, Lady Bug. The family would like to give a special gratitude of thanks to the staff at Sante Fe Place for their care and Montie’s home caregivers: Vera, Marie and Stephanie. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister: Patricia Hale. She is survived by her son: Mattlock Howell of Plainview, her daughters: Jacqueline Light & husband Joe of Odessa and Cheryl Howell of Tulia, four grandchildren: Aaron and Erica Reed, Adelle Light, Kyla Howell and fiancé Joshua Mathis and Dylan Howell; her honorary grandchild: Halle Culwell, two great grandchildren: Ava Elizabeth Reed and Aliana Grace Reed.
