Tulia, Texas—Rita Maye Dobbs, 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Oklaunion, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Monday, October 9, 2017 at the First Baptist Church with Mrs. Lee Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Rita Maye Dobbs was born on April 16, 1939 in Santa Rita, New Mexico to Benjamin Franklin and Revellah Maye Hooper. In 1948, the family moved to a parcel of land four miles north of Tulia where Rita was a farmer’s daughter until 1970 when she took on the role of farmer’s wife. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1957 as Valedictorian. She married Cletus Dobbs on December 7, 1957 and they soon started their family. When her youngest daughter started school, Rita began her college career graduating from West Texas State University in 1972. After teaching fourth grade in Kress for some years, she became a full time farm wife and a loving granny to her little brood of six grandchildren. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 53 years, two brothers: Bobby Hooper and Joe Hooper, and her son-in-law: Steve Simons. She departed for her heavenly home with her daughter Karen McBride at her side. She is survived by her daughter: Melba Simons-Brown & husband Russ of Keller, TX, one brother: Frank Hooper of Amarillo, her son-in-law: Bart McBride of Tulia, her grandchildren: Daniel McBride of Bridgeport, TX, Angela McBride of Lubbock, TX, Luke McBride of Paris, TX, Justin McBride of Tulia, Meredith Simons of Seattle, WA, Bethany Simons of Xining, China, Hope Owen of Knoxville, TN, Matt Brown of Ft. Worth, TX, and her great grandchildren: Matthew McBride of Bridgeport, TX and Liam McBride of Paradise, TX, Makyla and Kaitlyn of Bridgeport, TX .
